Marshalls 'building for future' as revenues rise
A construction, roofing and landscaping supplies firm has hailed the impact of a turnaround plan after returning to revenue growth.
Marshalls saw income rise two per cent to £632.1 million in the year to December 31.
Bosses say the figure marks a first top line uptick since 2022 and defies “subdued UK housing activity and discretionary home improvement spending”.
They add the renaissance was driven by “decisive” moves to “reduce portfolio complexity and tighten commercial practices” through its ‘Transform & Grow’ strategy, which leaves the business well placed to deliver savings of £11 million by the end of 2026.
They say the firm, headquartered in Elland, near Halifax, also benefited from higher landscaping product volumes and four per cent revenue growth across its building and roofing products divisions.
However, despite its revenue rise, adjusted operating profit fell 15 per cent to £56.4 million, though officials said the mark fell “in line with revised expectations”.
Operating profit was down 41 per cent to £32 million, with pre-tax profit 55 per cent lower at £17.7 million.
Simon Bourne, chief executive, said: “We have acted decisively to strengthen our foundations.
“We are not simply waiting for a cyclical recovery.
“As a result, the business has returned to revenue growth, while adjusted profit before tax was in line with guidance set out last year.
“Looking ahead, the ‘Transform & Grow’ strategy remains unchanged and is expected to deliver sustainable, profitable growth over the medium-term.
“With the steps taken in 2025, we have entered 2026 with stronger operational foundations.”
Operating across England, Scotland and Wales, Marshalls’ bases include sites in Bridgend, Coventry, Falkirk, Huddersfield, North Shields, Penrith and Sittingbourne.
