Annitsford housing scheme gets go-ahead
A North Tyneside housing development is set to boost the supply of affordable homes for local families.
Developer Tanaff Ltd has agreed a deal with North Tyneside Council to deliver nine three-bedroom terraced houses on land east of Front Street in Annitsford, with the homes to be made available for rent through the council’s Homefinder scheme.
The project was initially planned as an open market development but was revised after the developer identified a need for more affordable housing in the area.
Working alongside contractor PCD (UK) Ltd, Tanaff aims to provide modern, energy-efficient homes designed for family living, with features including solar panels and A-rated boilers.
Planning consultancy support was provided by Pegasus Group, which worked with the developer and council to ensure the scheme integrates with the surrounding community.
Once complete, the development is expected to support local housing demand while contributing to the council’s wider ambitions to increase access to affordable homes across the borough.
Craig McClen, director of Tanaff Ltd, said: “As a local developer, it’s really important to us that we give something back to the communities where we build.
“Annitsford is right on our doorstep, so we were keen to work with North Tyneside Council to deliver homes that local families can genuinely benefit from.
“By agreeing this approach, we’re able to provide the high-quality homes we're known for and make a real difference for families who want to stay in the area but might otherwise struggle to find suitable housing.”
Councillor John Harrison, North Tyneside’s cabinet member for housing, added: “We’re delighted to be working alongside Tanaff, a local developer, to bring more much-needed affordable housing to North Tyneside.
“One of our main priorities as a council is to increase the number of high-quality, affordable homes for our residents.
“This development is another positive step towards that goal and will provide real benefits for families, giving them access to safe, secure and affordable homes in Annitsford.”
