DVSC appoints new chief officer
Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council (DVSC), a Ruthin-based charity supporting community groups and volunteers, has appointed Janine Downing as chief officer.
Janine brings more than 16 years’ experience in the third sector, having held several senior roles at Wales Council for Voluntary Action, where she led national programmes and worked closely with voluntary organisations across Wales.
In her new role, she will focus on strengthening relationships with local groups and partners, ensuring DVSC continues to support charities, social enterprises and community initiatives across Denbighshire.
Janine said: “I’m incredibly proud, DVSC is an amazing organisation that does so much to support community groups, charities and volunteers in Denbighshire.
“We already have a committed and passionate team here, and I’m excited to build on the strong foundations already in place.
“My priority is making sure we are providing what the sector needs to be able to flourish.
“I will be making sure I am out meeting charities and community groups to hear directly from them to understand their needs.
“Anyone can get in touch – we are here for you.”
Janine added: “Tom has done an incredible job over the past five years and leaves very big shoes to fill.
“I hope to continue the great work he has led and ensure DVSC continues to be a strong champion for the voluntary sector in Denbighshire.”
Janine’s appointment follows the tenure of former chief officer Tom Barham, as DVSC continues to play a key role in supporting the region’s voluntary sector.
Tom added: “Janine has an outstanding track record as a strong voice for the third sector.
“She brings a wealth of experience, knowledge and passion for community work, and I have no doubt she will lead the team with energy and vision.
“I wish her every success in the role.”
