Rural support extended across Northumberland
A rural business support programme is set to continue following fresh funding aimed at driving growth and resilience.
Northumberland County Council has secured further investment to extend the Northumberland Small Business Service (NSBS), building on the success of recent enterprise initiatives celebrated at a showcase event held at The Alnwick Playhouse.
Since 2023, the service and the Rural Asset Multiplier Pilot (RAMP) have delivered more than £6 million in grants to businesses across the county, alongside additional funding for start-ups, supporting over 140 jobs.
Backed by the North East Combined Authority and the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and Rural England Prosperity Fund, the programme has helped businesses modernise, diversify and improve productivity.
The next phase will continue to offer tailored advice, specialist support and access to funding for businesses looking to start, grow or futureproof their operations.
Councillor Richard Wearmouth, cabinet member for regeneration at Northumberland County Council, said: “Northumberland’s rural businesses are the backbone of our communities and local economy.
“The success of NSBS and RAMP demonstrates what can be achieved through targeted support and strong partnership working.
“This new programme will ensure that rural enterprises continue to have access to the advice and expertise they need to thrive.”
The announcement comes as partners also unveiled a new Northumberland Economic Strategy, setting out a ten-year vision for sustainable growth and innovation across the county.
Councillor Glen Sanderson, leader of Northumberland County Council, added: “I am so proud of all the work the teams have done and are doing which ensures that expert business support is available and being taken up right across the County.”
