Cake maker 'set to rise higher' after shop switch
A cake maker says it is set for a sweet future after a shop move.
The Farsley Cake Company has switched to Sunny Bank Mills, in Farsley, near Leeds.
Owner Steven Newbatt-Macdonald says the venue marks an “exciting new chapter”, which will allow the business to extend trading hours, boost international supplier links and potentially create jobs.
Formerly based in Farsley’s Town Street, the business is working out of 1 Old Engine Room in the mill complex, which was once home to filming for Yorkshire Television shows Emmerdale and Heartbeat.
Known for celebration, illusion, wedding and novelty cakes, the business’ portfolio also includes cake decorating equipment and accessories.
Steven said: “This is the best thing I have ever done.
“Sunny Bank Mills is the beating heart of the Farsley community.
“I now have a much more suitable space for my growing customer base with my baking, decorating and retail areas on one floor, making my day‑to‑day operations significantly easier.”
John Gaunt, joint managing director of Sunny Bank Mills with cousin William, added: “Farsley Cake Company is a perfect fit.
“It is a well-established and respected local business, run by someone who is full of energy, creativity and expertise.”
