Drop-ins aim to boost digital connectivity

A series of regional events across the Tees Valley are set to help businesses improve digital infrastructure and shape future investment in connectivity.

The Tees Valley Combined Authority (TVCA) has launched Digital Connectivity Business Drop-Ins, inviting firms to share their experiences and influence future support.

The sessions will provide businesses with direct access to the authority’s digital team, offering an opportunity to discuss challenges around broadband, mobile coverage and the use of digital tools.

Organisers say the initiative is designed to ensure companies have the infrastructure needed to improve productivity, efficiency and competitiveness.

Councillor Alec Brown, TVCA cabinet member for business growth and net zero and leader of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, said: “Strong digital connectivity drives growth.

“It underpins innovation, improves productivity and opens new markets for our local firms.

“These drop-in sessions are an important opportunity for businesses to help shape the support available to them.

“By understanding the challenges they face and the opportunities they want to seize, we can ensure our approach is targeted, practical and delivers real benefits for businesses across the Tees Valley.”

Feedback gathered during the drop-ins will help inform future plans, including the development of digital connectivity within key growth areas such as the Tees Valley Investment Zone.

While there will be a particular focus on engaging digital and creative businesses in Middlesbrough and Hartlepool, firms from all sectors and locations are encouraged to attend.

Sessions will take place at Stockton Employment and Training Hub on Tuesday, April 14; Teesside Launchpad in Middlesbrough on Wednesday, April 15; the BIS in Hartlepool on Wednesday, April 22; the National Horizons Centre in Darlington on Tuesday, April 28; and The Palace Hub in Redcar on Wednesday, April 29.

Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen added: “We’re determined to make sure our businesses have the digital infrastructure they need to grow, compete and create jobs.

“Whether it’s fast, reliable internet, better mobile coverage or making the most of new technologies, this is all about giving our firms the tools to succeed.

“These sessions are a chance for businesses to tell us directly what works, what doesn’t and what more we need to do.

“We’ve got huge ambitions for digital growth in Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool – and by working together, we can make sure no business is left behind as we build a stronger, more connected economy.”
