Sunderland College appoints CTEC chair
Sunderland College has appointed Allan Cook CBE as chair of the Housing Innovation & Construction Skills Academy (HICSA) and the North East Construction Technical Excellence College (CTEC) Oversight Committee.
Allan brings more than 40 years’ international experience across engineering, manufacturing and infrastructure, having held senior roles at organisations including BAE Systems, Cobham and HS2.
In his new role, he will provide strategic leadership for the committee and act as an ambassador for construction skills development across the region and nationally.
Allan said: “As chair of HICSA and the Oversight Committee, I am proud to support the continued growth and impact of the North East CTEC which represents exactly what our region needs: a bold, collaborative approach to unlocking potential, creating opportunities and transforming lives through outstanding education and skills development.
“With the North East CTEC and HICSA, we have a unique opportunity to raise industry standards, drive innovation, and ensure that learners and employers across the North East benefit from world‑class training in both traditional and emerging construction technologies.

Allan’s appointment strengthens Sunderland College’s leadership as it continues to develop the North East CTEC and support skills growth across the construction sector.
