Grant helps youngsters dance into spotlight
A North East community initiative is giving young people the chance to develop their skills through a dance-focused wellbeing event.
UKSE has provided a £2000 grant to support Dance 4 Life, enabling 90 children and young people to take part in a day of workshops and performances.
Organised by Tees-based Nuvo Wellbeing, the event will take place on Apil 14 at East Durham College in Peterlee and will feature internationally recognised choreographers and dancers, whose experience spans global tours, major productions and television appearances.
Organisers say the programme is designed to inspire confidence, creativity and wellbeing, while offering participants access to high-quality training and performance opportunities.
Bethany Ainsley, a former professional dancer and founder of Nuvo Wellbeing, said: “Nuvo Wellbeing’s aim is to improve health and wellbeing as well as encourage social inclusion through dance and fitness.
“Dance can do so much to develop new skills, encourage creativity, build confidence and create friendships.
“We hold weekly classes in local areas and have seen how it can help to create stronger communities and inspire the next generation of performers.
“We had a wonderful response to last year’s Dance 4 Life event.
“One young person told us that they didn’t think they would ever be able to do something like this, but it was the best thing they had ever done.”
Bethany added: “The help is invaluable and we are very grateful to UKSE for this generous grant from their Community Support Fund.
“We need to cover costs such as equipment as well as the professional choreographers and want to ensure that it is fully accessible to the children, young people and their family members wanting to take part in the adult sessions.”
Peter Taylor, UKSE’s business development manager, added: “We are very pleased that we’ve been able to support Dance 4 Life from our Community Support Fund and help to make the event affordable for so many people.
“It is giving young people a unique opportunity to learn from some of the best professional choreographers right here in the North East.”
