Architect builds book with justice sector contracts
An architectural practice is cheering a stronger order book after securing justice sector deals.
Howarth Litchfield has worked with contractor Galliford Try on a raft of national projects.
Bosses say the firm has supported improvements at high-security sites in Durham, Stockton and Barnard Castle, in County Durham, as well as projects in London, Wakefield and Hemel Hempstead.
The work has included refurbishments, accommodation block alterations, feasibility studies and the design and construction of education, catering, training and reception buildings.
Keith Handy, director at Howarth Litchfield, which operates from Belmont Business Park on the outskirts of Durham City, said: “When I joined Howarth Litchfield, I brought with me many years’ experience of working with Galliford Try.
“That existing relationship and proven track record have allowed us to quickly establish the practice in this specialist sector.
“Over the past year alone, we’ve delivered six live projects across five sites, with a further five or six in the pipeline – both regionally and nationally.”
Amy Surguy, Galliford Try national framework manager for custodial works, added: “Keith and his team have become a trusted design partner on our Ministry of Justice projects.
“Their adaptability, understanding of custodial operational requirements and ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders have been instrumental in helping us maintain our reputation for delivery.”
