Construction milestone reached at Eston site
A Teesside retail redevelopment is progressing at pace as construction reaches a key structural milestone.
Bowburn-headquartered Esh Construction, working with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, has completed the steel frame installation at Eston Precinct as part of plans to deliver new retail space.
The scheme will create 14,600sq ft of modern retail units across seven outlets, aimed at revitalising the area and improving the local shopping environment.
Following demolition of the original precinct, work has advanced quickly, with foundations installed and an 85-tonne steel framework now in place.
Construction will now move towards roofing, drainage connections and brickwork, as the building begins to take shape.
Grant Watson, construction director at Esh Construction, said: “Completing the steel frame installation marks a major step forward for the redevelopment of Eston Precinct.
“This milestone reflects the hard work and strong partnership of everyone involved, and it’s exciting to see the structure now taking shape.
“With the frame now in place, we can confidently progress onto the next stages of construction and continue delivering a scheme that will bring lasting benefits to the local community and much needed retail space for the town.”
Alongside the new units, wider improvements will include upgraded paving, lighting and public spaces, helping establish Eston Precinct as a more attractive community destination.
Funded by the UK Government and Tees Valley Combined Authority, the project is expected to complete in autumn 2026, marking a significant step in the area’s regeneration.
Esh is working with Identity Consult, SPACE Architects, Portland Consulting Engineers and Fairhurst to deliver the project.
Councillor Lynn Pallister MBE, cabinet member for growth and enterprise at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, added: “This milestone shows real momentum in the transformation of Eston Precinct and reflects our commitment to investing in the future of our town centres.
“Once complete, the development will provide seven new retail units and a high-quality outdoor space that will encourage more people to visit and support local businesses.
“Alongside better paving, lighting and spaces for events and markets, this scheme will create a more vibrant and welcoming place for residents and visitors alike, while supporting economic growth and job opportunities in the local area.
“We’re grateful to our partners and funders for their continued support as the project moves into its next phase.”
