Cocoon opens diagnostics clinic in Harrogate

A Harrogate-based healthcare provider is expanding its services with a new clinic focused on early diagnosis and preventative care as demand for faster access to testing grows.

Cocoon has opened a science-led prevention clinic in Harrogate town centre, introducing a model more commonly seen in London to Yorkshire.

The facility offers a broad range of diagnostics, including advanced imaging, blood analysis and personalised health programmes, helping patients investigate symptoms and understand long-term health risks.

Its launch comes amid growing concern over health outcomes in the region, with people spending longer in poor health, while 1.81 million people across England are waiting for diagnostic tests, with nearly one in four waiting more than six weeks.

Founded in 2024 by Sam Naughton, Cocoon has supported more than 3000 people and is now expanding beyond its origins in pregnancy and women’s health into wider diagnostic and early detection services, a direction shaped by Sam’s own experiences of baby loss and later losing a loved one to cancer.

Sam said: “What began in 2024 as a pregnancy and women’s wellness clinic has naturally evolved into something much bigger as we’ve listened to what people are telling us they need.

“We are seeing more and more people who do not want to wait until something becomes a crisis before they are taken seriously, whether that is exhaustion, hormonal changes, sleep disruption, cognitive symptoms or simply a sense that something is not right.

“What makes this different is our ethos of science-led diagnostics, soul-led care.

“People want robust clinical answers, but they also want to feel genuinely looked after in premium surroundings, by an expert team, without waitlists and without feeling rushed through the process.

“More recently, losing somebody close to me to cancer made the need for earlier answers feel even more urgent.

“It strengthened my determination to create one of the North’s first spaces dedicated to helping people access that clarity much earlier, with genuine reassurance and a clear long-term plan.”

The move is supported by new senior appointments, including consultant radiologist and medical director Dr Adam Culverwell and clinic director Kate Ward, strengthening its capability in imaging and patient care.

Dr Culverwell added: “Earlier insight can make a meaningful difference, whether that is providing reassurance, identifying an issue that needs further investigation, or helping someone better understand their long-term health risks.

“What matters is making sure people have access to the right expertise, the right investigations, and the right follow-up at the right time.

“By bringing imaging, blood analysis and specialist clinical review together, we can help people gain clarity sooner and make more informed decisions about their health.”

Kate added: “For many people, understanding what is happening in their body can feel overwhelming, particularly when symptoms affect different parts of daily life such as sleep, energy, hormones or concentration.

“Our focus is on combining timely diagnostics with calm, compassionate care, so people feel supported, understood and confident in the next steps of their health journey.”
