Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service hires leadership duo
Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service has appointed Keith Carruthers as chief fire officer and Stephen Kennedy as deputy chief fire officer.
Keith brings extensive leadership experience, while Stephen adds strong operational expertise and a focus on community safety.
Together, they will lead the service as it continues to strengthen resilience and enhance its work across the region.
Keith said: “It is an honour to return to Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service as chief fire officer, having first begun my career here in 1996.
“This Service helped shape my professional life, and I am immensely proud to now lead such a dedicated and skilled organisation.
“My focus will be on strengthening the strong foundations already in place, championing the development of our people and ensuring we continue to deliver an exceptional service to our communities.”
Stephen added: “It is a privilege to step into the role of deputy chief fire officer, and I am excited to help shape the future of Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service.
“I look forward to working with colleagues and partners to enhance our capabilities, embrace innovation and deliver the highest standards of service.”
Their appointments support the organisation’s ongoing commitment to protecting communities and improving emergency response.
Northumberland County councillor Gordon Stewart, cabinet member for public safety and chair of the Fire Authority, added: “I am very pleased to welcome Keith Carruthers and Stephen Kennedy to their new leadership roles.
“Their combined experience, dedication and vision will be invaluable as Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service continues to protect residents across the county.”
