Design North to help serve up new padel hub
A Newcastle-based interior design practice is set to deliver a state-of-the-art padel complex in North Tyneside after landing a new commission.
Design North, part of the Woolsington-based Architects-Group, has been appointed by Project Padel to transform a 53,000sq ft warehouse at Silverlink in North Tyneside into a large-scale indoor padel and leisure complex.
The undisclosed seven-figure redevelopment will significantly expand the region’s provision, with the site expected to become the largest indoor facility of its kind locally.
Plans include multiple padel courts, alongside gym, spa and social spaces.
Scott Stewart, director of Design North, said: “We have extensive experience in leisure and hospitality projects.
“Our knowledge and expertise will provide contemporary and state-of-the-art facilities at Silverlink, allowing padel to play centre stage, while natural materials and hints of industrial modernity create a luxurious but subtle backdrop.”
Project Padel, which launched Newcastle’s first courts in Benton in 2024, will double its operational capacity through the new site, building on strong early demand for the sport.
The project also forms part of a wider pipeline of developments for Architects-Group, with further facilities planned across the North of England as interest in the sport continues to grow.
Aaron Shepherdson, director at Project Padel, added: “We are thrilled to bring a new Project Padel facility to Tyneside.
“Design North has really understood our requirements, making them the perfect partners for this project.
“The new club will offer a fantastic leisure and sporting experience, similar to our other locations, featuring social tournaments and events, coaching, and a community-focused atmosphere.”
