Peterlee retail park nearly full after launch
A County Durham retail development is nearing full occupancy following strong demand from national and local operators.
Almscliffe-Dhesi Group (ADG) has opened its new retail-led scheme in Peterlee, with just one unit remaining after transforming a former car dealership into a modern convenience hub.
The site, located off Passfield Way, is now home to a mix of high-profile tenants including Sainsbury’s, Greggs, Dominos and CVS Vets, alongside electric vehicle charging facilities.
Only one 1250sq ft unit remains available, offering an opportunity for another retailer to join the scheme.
Neil Creeney, who owns and runs ADG with his business partner Bal Singh, said: “It is tremendous news that our Peterlee retail centre, just 200 yards from the A19, is now open.
“This high-quality retail development has made shopping much more convenient for local residents and we are delighted, but not surprised, that there is just one remaining unit left to let.
“The development is within walking distance for many and includes 70 car parking spaces, with a provision of accessible bays, and eight electric vehicle charging points.
“It was clear from the outset that many local people wanted to see the site developed and that there was definitely a demand for our retail plans in the area.”
The development has created around 100 jobs and is already proving popular with customers, reflecting demand for accessible, community-focused retail.
Positioned close to local schools and key transport links, the scheme has strengthened Peterlee’s retail offer while delivering a boost to the local economy.
Neil added: “It was tremendous news that a retailer of the quality and reputation of Sainsburys decided to move into our retail centre in Peterlee.
“What a resounding endorsement of our development.
“We now expect serious interest in our last remaining unit, given the quality of retailers trading successfully.”
Bal added: “It is fantastic for Peterlee that other popular national retailers such as Greggs and Dominos have invested in the town, providing much-needed new facilities and jobs.
“This chimes in with the Government’s levelling up agenda for the north, which aims to invest in northern towns who have previously been left behind.”
