CPH2 signs MoU to drive growth

A South Yorkshire clean technology firm is targeting European expansion through a new partnership to scale hydrogen production.

Clean Power Hydrogen (CPH2), based in Doncaster, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ABE GRUPPE GmbH, a subsidiary of European energy infrastructure firm BKW Infra Services Europa SE, to explore the rollout of its electrolyser technology across key markets.

The agreement outlines plans to supply, install and maintain up to 175MW of electrolysers over the next decade, combining the capabilities of both organisations to develop commercial opportunities across Europe.

CPH2’s membrane-free electrolysers are designed to reduce the cost and complexity of hydrogen production by removing the need for scarce materials and simplifying system design.

The technology enables businesses to generate hydrogen and oxygen on site, supporting a range of industrial and energy applications.

Bosses say the partnership will target sectors including renewable energy, where excess wind and solar capacity can be converted into hydrogen, as well as industries such as wastewater treatment, semiconductor manufacturing, healthcare and data centres.

Jon Duffy, chief executive of CPH2, said: “Together with ABE, BKW is a leading energy and infrastructure group with a significant footprint across Germany and Switzerland.

“This agreement reinforces the scalability and market appetite for the brand-new category of electrolyser we have developed.

“Our membrane-free technology offers a lower lifetime cost for producing hydrogen and above medical grade oxygen.

“We are pleased to be partnering with ABE and BKW to demonstrate how our electrolysers can deliver benefits across their project portfolio, and we look forward to working with them and their end-user customers.”

ABE, part of the BKW Group, provides end-to-end services across energy infrastructure projects, from engineering and development to operations and maintenance.

Its parent company is one of Switzerland’s largest energy providers, employing more than 11,000 people.

Daniel Lorenzen, general manager BKW renewable energies and managing director of ABE GRUPPE GmbH, added: “This exciting partnership builds upon CPH2s existing breakthrough 1MW membrane-free unit and expands over time with the forthcoming 5MW unit.

“With this technology we can offer our customers a more reliable, higher purity, lower lifetime cost of hydrogen and oxygen production for the growing decentralised energy market.”
