Numiko joins 1% for the Planet network
A Leeds-based digital agency is committing part of its annual revenue to environmental causes, launching the initiative with a donation that has significantly boosted a regional food redistribution charity.
Numiko has joined 1% for the Planet, pledging one per cent of its annual revenue to approved environmental organisations.
As part of its first contribution, the agency donated £4597 to FareShare Yorkshire through the Big Give’s Earth Raise campaign.
The donation was matched by the Garfield Weston Foundation, doubling the impact to £9194 and helping propel the campaign from 46 per cent to 92 per cent of its £20,000 target.
Founded on a mission to work with purpose-driven organisations, Numiko expects to contribute around £40,000 annually through the initiative.
The agency plans to distribute funding across a range of local organisations each quarter, with Leeds Wood Recycling among those set to benefit next.
David Eccles, managing director at Numiko, said: “We’ve been based in Leeds for over 25 years, so supporting an organisation like FareShare Yorkshire feels like a really natural first step.
“We built this agency on the idea of delivering great digital for good, and joining 1% for the Planet means we’re backing that up with real money going to real causes.
“We’re proud that our very first contribution is making a genuine difference to people right here in Yorkshire.”
FareShare Yorkshire plays a vital role in supporting communities across the region, redistributing surplus food to charities and frontline services including food banks, refuges, hospices and breakfast clubs.
The organisation currently helps provide enough food for more than 114000 meals each week, supporting over 44000 people.
With demand continuing to rise due to increasing food costs and financial pressures, the funding boost comes at a critical time.
Jonathan Williams, chief executive of FareShare Yorkshire, added: “Your generosity and partnership will enable FareShare Yorkshire to serve more of these frontline organisations each week with the surplus food they need to alleviate hunger across Yorkshire.”
