Ofsted praises Newcastle education provider
A North East education provider has been recognised for delivering high-quality, inclusive learning that is transforming outcomes for students and apprentices.
Newcastle City Learning, part of Newcastle City Council, has been rated at a “strong standard” across 13 categories following an Ofsted inspection in March.
The post-16 provider offers courses for adults, programmes for young people, apprenticeships and employer-led training, with inspectors highlighting its commitment to inclusion, learner wellbeing and high achievement.
Learners and apprentices were found to develop confidence, build friendships and feel a strong sense of belonging, with adult participants describing their experience as life changing.
Young people who had previously disengaged from education were also reported to make rapid progress.
Inspectors praised the service’s flexible support, including dedicated pastoral spaces, specialist facilities and tailored work placements.
Strong achievement rates were recorded across all provision, with most learners progressing into further education, employment or apprenticeships, while inspectors also commended Newcastle City Learning for creating a highly inclusive environment.
Leadership, “effective and engaging” teaching quality and employer engagement were also recognised, reinforcing Newcastle City Learning’s role in supporting skills development and opportunity across the city.
Gillian Forrester, head of Newcastle City Learning, said: “We are extremely proud of this outcome.
“It reflects the passion, expertise and dedication of our staff and the resilience and commitment of our learners.
“This report recognises the difference Newcastle City Learning makes every day, supporting people to thrive, achieve and move confidently into their next steps.”
