School celebrates double award success
A Teesside-based independent school is celebrating national recognition for its approach to pupil wellbeing and inclusive education.
Red House School in Norton has secured two awards, including the Silver School Mental Health Award from the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in Schools, building on its previous Bronze status, alongside the Rainbow Flag Award recognising its commitment to LGBT+ inclusion.
The accolades reflect the school’s focus on supporting pupils’ emotional wellbeing through initiatives such as a dedicated ‘Zen Den’ space, mindfulness within the curriculum and outdoor learning opportunities.
The approach is supported by key staff including Samantha Lindsay-Symington, director of wellbeing and pastoral care; Nicola Cooper, wellbeing lead for the junior school; and Ian Barnbrook-McKay, nursery and EYFS co-ordinator.
Together, the awards highlight a whole-school commitment to creating an environment where pupils feel supported, valued and able to thrive.
Dr Rebecca Ashcroft, head of Red House School, said: “We are incredibly proud to have achieved the Silver School Mental Health Award.
“This recognition reflects the genuine care and commitment of our whole school community.
“Supporting children’s emotional wellbeing is fundamental to their success, and we remain dedicated to ensuring every pupil feels supported, confident and ready to thrive in school and beyond.
“Creating an inclusive environment where every child feels valued and respected is at the heart of everything we do.
“We are incredibly proud to have this recognised once again.”
