Brewer unveils £44.5 million pub revamp plan
A brewer has unveiled £44.5 million pub revamp plans.
Heineken UK says it is set to upgrade 647 sites across its Star Pubs portfolio.
Bosses say the move will create 850 jobs and significantly boost sports facilities, adding it will “secure the future of fantastic institutions admired the world over”.
The investment covers bars across the country, including North East sites The Grey Horse, in Houghton-le-Spring, near Sunderland; The Ship, in Marske, near Redcar; and The Five Alls, in Stockton-on-Tees.
In Yorkshire, Star Pubs says the outlay will help revamp Otley’s White Swan and The Old Black Swan, in Bedale, near Northallerton.
Another 20-plus pubs across London and the Home Counties – including The William Morris, in Walthamstow; The Queen Charlotte, in Windsor; and The Prince of Wales, in Cheam, are also primed for upgrades.
Lawson Mountstevens, Star Pubs’ managing director, said: “Investment is essential if pubs are to remain a first choice for people looking for somewhere to socialise.
“This investment will create flexible job opportunities in communities across the country and give many young people their first taste of work.”
Further establishments on Star Pubs’ investment list include The Red Kite, in Winlaton Mill, near Blaydon; The Peacock, in Newcastle; The Cork & Bottle, in Hampstead; and The Chapel Inn, in Coggeshall.
