Work begins on 55-home Edinburgh scheme
A Scottish housing scheme is under way to support demand for affordable homes in Edinburgh.
Sanctuary Scotland has begun construction on 55 affordable homes at the Edmonstone Estate in south-east Edinburgh, forming part of a wider masterplan set to deliver more than 850 properties.
The scheme includes a mix of two-bedroom flats and houses, alongside three-bedroom homes, all designed with accessibility and future adaptability in mind.
Features will include provisions for wheelchair access and potential wet room installations.
Located at the corner of Old Dalkeith Road and The Wisp, the development sits within Avant Homes’ broader regeneration plans and contributes to the affordable housing requirement under a Section 75 agreement.
Sustainability will underpin the scheme, with properties connected to a district heating system to enhance efficiency.
Gillian Lavety, Sanctuary’s development director for Scotland, said: “We are delighted that work has now started on our 55 new affordable homes at Edmonstone, marking an important milestone within this significant masterplan for south-east Edinburgh.
“These homes will help create a vibrant and sustainable new community, providing high-quality, energy-efficient housing for local people.
“Delivering more affordable homes in areas of high demand remains a key priority for Sanctuary, and we are proud to be playing our part in the wider transformation of the Edmonstone Estate.”
Work is now under way, with completion expected in late 2027.
