Salko UK celebrates award success
A Yorkshire engineering firm is celebrating national recognition after securing an award for its family-led business approach.
Mechanical and electrical engineering specialist Salko UK picked up the Yorkshire, Humber and the North East Family Business Award at the HSBC Small Business Awards.
The company was recognised for its strong family-led culture and multi-generational leadership, with family values continuing to shape its long-term growth and operations.
Founded in 2000 by Dean Murphy, Salko UK has remained family owned for 25 years while expanding its presence across the energy, industrial, commercial and mining sectors.
Dean’s daughter, Georgina Wilkinson, now serves as chief financial officer after progressing through the business over 15 years, while his son Gary Murphy leads key operational delivery as senior electrical lead.
Dean says the recognition reflects the business’ continued focus on trust, technical expertise and long-term relationships with clients and employees.
He said: “We’re pleased to have been recognised by such a big organisation for our commitment to family values.
“Our family ethos extends beyond our immediate family, fostering a work culture where employees feel valued and part of a larger family.
“This approach has enabled us to build a loyal and skilled workforce right here in Goole, providing stability and consistency through the ever-changing landscape of our industry.”
The awards ceremony took place at Oulton Hall in Leeds, with Salko UK now progressing to the national finals at The Savoy in London.
