Silverstone drives on with £700,000 Hitachi deal

A building surveyor and project management firm has strengthened its order book with £700,000 work.

Silverstone Building Consultancy is set to upgrade Hitachi Construction Machinery UK bases.

The project will include the refurbishment of a 70,000sq ft hub on Monkton Business Park, in Hebburn, South Tyneside.

Bosses say work will replace heating and cooling systems and fit new fire safety and intruder alarm systems in the building, which is used to modify excavators for UK and Irish construction markets.

Fire and security alarms will be installed at two further properties.

Newcastle-based Silverstone is working alongside JCP Consulting Engineers and main contractor Robertson.

The project – which follows a previous scheme to deliver a £1 million warehouse expansion – is earmarked for completion later this summer.

Phil Bone, Silverstone Building Consultancy director, said: “The building works cannot affect Hitachi’s on-site manufacturing activity, so we are carefully planning every stage.”

Dave Roberts, Hitachi Construction Machinery UK chief executive, added: “These critical upgrades to our UK headquarters will allow us to create a workspace for a large number of our valued employees that is fit for purpose.”

Silverstone Building Consultancy has further offices in Leeds and London.
