Azets expands with Alextra acquisition

A national accountancy and advisory group has strengthened its North West presence through the acquisition of a fast-growing regional firm.

Azets has bought Alextra, adding 70 employees and three offices across Stoke-on-Trent, Crewe and Warrington.

The move expands Azets’ footprint between Birmingham and Manchester and forms part of wider growth and recruitment plans across the region.

Founded in the North West, Alextra has built a strong reputation supporting SMEs through long-standing client relationships and sustained organic growth.

Under the terms of the deal, Alextra’s senior leadership team will remain in place, with director Mathew Weaver becoming office managing partner for the three locations.

The business will also rebrand as Azets, giving clients access to a broader range of specialist advisory services and a wider professional network.

Bosses say colleagues joining the group will also benefit from further investment in technology, infrastructure and career development opportunities.

Peter Gallanagh, UK and Ireland chief executive at Azets, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Alextra to Azets.

“They’re a high-performing, well-respected practice with a hugely talented team, and have a history of providing excellent support to SMEs both locally and across the country.

“Alextra will be the bridge between the Midlands and North West for Azets and the team there share our approach to supporting and developing our people, our belief in first-rate client service, and our ambition to grow and evolve as a business.”

Mathew added: “We’re delighted to join Azets.

“Becoming part of the Group will help us with our plans to scale and grow, and we’ll benefit from access to broader infrastructure, capability and support, while maintaining our client-focused approach and local presence.

“It’s a very exciting move which will enable us to deliver better value to our clients, work smarter, grow faster, and provide greater opportunities for our team.”

The acquisition was completed on April 30, with legal advice provided to Azets by Simon Procter, Emily Egan, Fatima Khan and Maria Foanta at Shoosmiths.
