Karbon recognised for workplace wellbeing

A North East housing provider has strengthened its reputation for workplace wellbeing after retaining a regional health award and securing ambassador status.

Newcastle-headquartered Karbon Homes has once again achieved the Better Health at Work Award, which recognises employers across the North East and Cumbria for promoting health and wellbeing in the workplace.

The organisation has also received ‘Ambassador’ status, awarded to a small number of employers demonstrating long-term commitment to workplace health initiatives.

The programme highlights areas including physical health, mental wellbeing and employee support, helping organisations target resources where they are most needed.

Bosses say the recognition reflects Karbon’s continued focus on creating a positive working culture and supporting staff wellbeing across the business.

Iain Herdman, group director of people and organisational development at Karbon Homes, said: “I’m incredibly proud that we’ve retained the Better Health at Work Award because it reflects our ongoing commitment to creating a workplace where people genuinely feel supported and valued.

“It also highlights that we’ve not just met the standard once but have continued our commitment to supporting our colleagues’ wellbeing year after year, which is central to who we are as an organisation.

“It is no surprise that mental health remains a top priority, and we take our responsibility to support colleagues’ mental wellbeing very seriously.

“We offer a range of free benefits that colleagues can access from day one and we have established a network of Mental Health Allies to promote awareness of these resources and provide support.

“These are trained colleagues who have completed Mental Health First Aid training and over the past three years we have trained 76 people across the organisation.

“We have also made a concerted effort to engage more male colleagues in the programme and are delighted that men now make up 30 per cent of our Mental Health Allies.

“We are proud of the progress made in supporting our colleagues but recognise there is still more to do.

“We therefore remain committed to continued investment in both the Better Health at Work Award and in initiatives that support the health and wellbeing of our colleagues.”
