Redford plans 100-home scheme at former HQ

A Warwickshire property developer has unveiled plans to transform a former corporate headquarters site into a new residential community in Coventry.

Redford Developments has submitted outline planning proposals to Coventry City Council for up to 100 homes on the site of E.ON’s former UK headquarters at Westwood Business Park.

The 3.8-hectare site was occupied by the energy company for almost 30 years before it relocated to new offices at Friargate in Coventry city centre last year.

Plans for the redevelopment include demolishing the existing headquarters building to make way for new housing, highways improvements and public open space, including a children’s play area.

Proposals also include retaining the majority of existing trees and hedgerows around the site boundary, alongside ecological improvements aimed at boosting biodiversity.

Redford Developments has appointed Stantec as architect for the scheme, with Marrons acting as planning consultant.

A public consultation with local residents took place in April.

Richard Mees, chief executive of Redford Developments, said: “This expansive, landmark office building is no longer required, with E.ON having moved into a brand new building within Coventry city centre.

“This frees up a brownfield site located within a popular residential neighbourhood.

“The vacant Westwood Business Park site has the potential to help meet the demand from local families for energy-efficient new homes.

“We look forward to working with council officers, councillors and stakeholders while this outline planning application is being determined.”

The project forms part of Redford Developments’ wider brownfield regeneration strategy, with the business currently progressing or promoting ten similar sites, including securing outline planning approval for a nearby 400-bed purpose-built student accommodation scheme close to the University of Warwick.
