Tram operator NET appoints head of operations and safety
Nottingham Express Transit (NET) has appointed Andrew Downie as head of operations and safety as the tram operator continues to strengthen its focus on passenger safety and operational performance.
Andrew brings more than ten years’ experience in the rail industry alongside two decades with Nottinghamshire Police.
He previously worked for East Midlands Railway as duty service manager, overseeing live rail operations, service performance and depot support teams in Nottingham.
In his new role, Andrew will help lead NET’s ongoing safety initiatives, including supporting Operation Safenet, a partnership between NET, Nottinghamshire Police and the Police and Crime Commissioner aimed at improving safety across the tram network.
Andrew said: “Upholding NET’s commitment to ensuring the safety of passengers, drivers and other road users is a key priority for me.
“I believe there’s a need to keep educating and raising awareness around the realities of sharing the road with a tram, and I’ll continue to drive forward the safety campaign launched last year around Road Traffic Collisions.
“The impact of these collisions is significant, not only in terms of safety but also from an operational perspective, with such collisions often greatly impacting the wider network.
“As a result, this will be a big focus of my role.”
Andew added: “During my time with NET already, the team’s dedication has shone through.
“They really care about delivering a great service and I’m looking forward to working with them to continue to strengthen safety and service reliability across the network.
“Every day, I see how integral the trams are to the people of Nottingham.
“Whether that’s to get commuters to work, students to their lectures or families across the city.
“And I’m looking forward to helping NET continue to deliver a safe, reliable and efficient service that people can trust to keep Nottingham moving.”
