Ground broken on £11 million city business hub

Work has officially started on an £11 million business hub venture.

Contractors have broken ground on Glasgow’s XWORKS site.

The 29,432sq ft scheme is set to house advanced manufacturing and research and development workspace.

Bosses say the Dalmarnock Cross-based endeavour could create 150 posts, adding it will “play a key role in creating capacity to capture high-quality jobs, drive innovation and support skills development in Scotland”.

The project – designed by Stallan Brand and set to be built by Heron Bros –  is earmarked for completion next year.

Construction of the development – led by urban regeneration company Clyde Gateway – was officially launched by First Minister John Swinney.

He said: “Clyde Gateway is one of Scotland's most significant regeneration projects; visiting the site has shown the importance of public and private investment working together to grow our economy.”

Martin McKay, Clyde Gateway chief executive, added: “Since the inception of Clyde Gateway, we have welcomed 4000 new homes, created thousands of jobs and achieved £1.5 billion of public and private sector investment.

“In this area of Dalmarnock alone, you can see the great progress that has been made in regenerating what was empty and contaminated land.”

The XWORKS project is funded by the UK Government, Scottish Enterprise and the Scottish Government.
