Clearwater appoints chair to support European expansion

Independent M&A adviser Clearwater has appointed Michael Ingelög as chair as the firm continues to expand its international advisory capabilities across Europe.

Based in Sweden, Michael brings extensive experience across investment banking, entrepreneurship and board leadership, having previously held senior roles at Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank and UBS.

He also co-founded digital mortgage platform Stabelo Group and has advised a range of technology and growth businesses throughout his career.

In his new role, Michael will work closely with Clearwater’s leadership teams across Europe as the company continues to strengthen its cross-border mergers and acquisitions and debt advisory offering.

He said: “What attracted me to Clearwater was its entrepreneurial mindset and the way people across the business work together.

“There’s a real energy to the firm, but also a strong focus on understanding businesses properly and building lasting relationships with clients.

“I’ve always enjoyed getting close to businesses - understanding what drives them, what challenges they face, and how they create long-term value.

“M&A is ultimately about people and judgement, and while technology is changing the way firms operate internationally, those fundamentals don’t change.

“Clearwater has built something very strong across Europe and I’m looking forward to working with the teams across the business in this next stage of growth.”

Operating across 13 European countries and with offices in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds, Clearwater advises businesses, investors and private equity firms on M&A, debt advisory and strategic growth opportunities.

Last year, the firm completed 202 transactions worth €11.2 billion, including 88 cross-border deals, and raised more than €6 billion through its debt advisory division.

Bruce Weir, chief operating officer at Clearwater, added: “Michael brings a perspective that is hugely valuable because he’s experienced business from every angle - as a senior adviser, entrepreneur, investor, and chairman.

“It’s a combination that few have, and it gives him a strong understanding of both the human and strategic side of building businesses, which makes him a great cultural fit for us.

“He also brings deep international experience and an entrepreneurial mindset that strongly aligns with Clearwater’s culture.

“At a time when clients are navigating increasingly complex and fast-moving markets, Michael’s relationship-led approach and insight will be hugely valuable to both our teams and our clients.”
