Kirklees appoints new mayor
Councillor Karen Allison has been appointed as the new mayor of Kirklees for 2026/27 following the council’s annual Mayor Making ceremony.
Councillor Lee Cliff was also confirmed as deputy mayor during the meeting, which marks the start of the new civic year.
As mayor, councillor Allison will represent Kirklees at events across the borough, support local communities and raise awareness of charitable causes throughout her year in office.
She has represented Newsome ward since first being elected in 2014 and previously spent 23 years working for Kirklees Council within its estates service.
Alongside her council duties, councillor Allison has supported a number of community organisations and volunteer initiatives, including Longwood Theatre Productions and Newsome 45th Scouts.
During her term, she will attend civic and community events across the borough and encourage residents, schools, businesses and community groups to engage with the mayor’s office.
