Engineer on track with HS2 safety door deal
An engineering firm has started work on a landmark rail deal.
Booth Industries has begun making 300 cross-passage doors for HS2.
Bosses say the Bolton-based company will supply and install the 600kg structures “over the coming years” to separate north and southbound emergency tunnels on the London-to-Birmingham line.
The firm will make additional safety doors for HS2’s West London-based Old Oak Common station.
Mike Jenkinson, Booth Industries’ managing director, said: “We have more than 150 years’ manufacturing heritage, delivering performance-critical components for some of the world’s most demanding industries.
“We are proud to be supporting another nationally-significant infrastructure project in HS2.
“It’s a great feeling to see the first cross-passage doors roll off the production line, marking a significant landmark in the delivery of this contract.”
Qasir Raza, HS2 head of delivery – tunnels and lineside M&E, added: “It’s great to see the first cross-passage door come off the production line.
“This is a key milestone as we start to transition from civil engineering to installation of the critical systems needed to operate the railway.
“The doors may not be visible to passengers, but they will play a crucial role in enabling us to run a fast, reliable and safe service.”
