Anchor opens 76-home scheme in Hackney

A provider of specialist housing and care has opened a new affordable development designed to support people aged over 55 in later life.

Anchor has officially opened Goldfinch Point in Hackney, delivered in partnership with homebuilder The Hill Group and supported by the Greater London Authority and Hackney Council.

The scheme provides 76 one and two-bedroom apartments for rent and Older Persons Shared Ownership, delivering a 168 per cent increase in affordable housing compared to the previous homes on the site.

Representatives from Anchor, The Hill Group, local government and the Greater London Authority marked the opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, joined by returning residents who lived in the building before its redevelopment.

Deputy mayor of London Tom Copley said: “It was fantastic to see the completed homes at Goldfinch Point, delivered with support from the mayor of London.

“Ensuring the availability of accessible, affordable homes is vital to supporting older people in the Hackney community to live healthier, happier lives.

“I’m excited to see further progress on the development and witness the growth of a thriving later living community.”

Oliver Boundy, executive director of development at Anchor, added: “We’re delighted to mark the opening of this new development, bringing much‑needed affordable homes to local people in Hackney.

“We’re looking forward to seeing the community take shape and are dedicated to creating homes where people can enjoy later life to the fullest.”

Goldfinch Point includes shared facilities such as a communal lounge and kitchen, designed to help residents and visitors relax, socialise and connect.

The sustainable development delivers a 46 per cent biodiversity net gain and a 70 per cent CO2 reduction.

Apartments are currently available from £48,000 for a ten per cent share under the Older Persons Shared Ownership scheme.

Michael Turner, regional director at The Hill Group, added: “Providing high-quality specialist housing for older people is essential to creating inclusive communities that support people at every stage of life.

“Goldfinch Point will deliver much-needed affordable homes for over-55s in Hackney, creating a vibrant and sustainable later living community where residents can remain connected to the area they know and love.

“Working in partnership with Anchor, we are proud to have delivered a thoughtfully designed development that promotes independence, wellbeing and community, allowing people to enjoy later life to the fullest.”
