Bistro operator set to serve up community hall revamp

A bistro operator is set to add a fresh venue to its menu.

Wilsons Food Hall has won a tender to buy Newby and Scalby Community Hall, near Scarborough.

Bosses Adrian and Louise Wilson say they plan to turn the base into a “vibrant and inclusive community hub” hosting local clubs, food-related events, community meals, educational workshops and social gatherings.

Known as Wilsons Food & Community Hall, they add the venue will also benefit from upgraded showering facilities to support local sports clubs and provide space for fairs, music events and private functions.

The 4,000sq ft Scalby-based building dates to the 1920s and was previously run by Scarborough Borough Council before ownership was transferred to the Newby and Scalby Community Hall Trust.

Adrian, who runs Wilsons Food Hall alongside Louise in nearby Seamer, said: “We are excited to become the new owners of this historic building.

“Our vision is to create a vibrant and inclusive community hub while continuing the hall’s legacy as a space for local clubs, activities and social engagement.”

Louise added: “We’re passionate about creating strong community spaces people can feel proud of.

“Wilsons Food Hall is highly valued by local residents – and we want to replicate that in Scalby.”

A meeting will be held at Newby and Scalby Community Hall on Thursday, June 25, from 2pm to 5.30pm, for residents to ask questions about the couple’s blueprint for the site.
