'The Geordie Artist' expands creative reach
A North Tyneside restorative skin specialist is building a second career as a professional artist after turning a lifelong passion for creativity into a growing business venture.
Amanda Patterson, who runs Wallsend-based Amanda Jo Skin Artist, is expanding her artistic work alongside her specialist restorative skin treatments, which include areola restoration, permanent makeup and scalp micropigmentation.
Based in Camperdown, Amanda has long been passionate about portraiture, realism and drawing, with her fascination for faces, light and shading helping shape the detailed work she now carries out for clients rebuilding confidence following surgery, hair loss or trauma.
Although she previously completed a degree in dance and pursued a different career, art remained a constant throughout her life.
During the pandemic, Amanda combined her artistic skills with a desire to help others, leading to the launch of her restorative skin business.
She said: “Art has always been my passion.
“It was the one thing at school that really clicked for me and something I’ve continued throughout my life.
“Everything I do now in my business comes from those artistic foundations.
“My art naturally led me into restorative skin work because both require precision, realism and understanding tones and shapes.
“But now I’m also reaching a point where I want to develop the art side of my life much further as well.”
Alongside her client work, Amanda continues to produce large-scale charcoal portraits, including a detailed image of singer Amy Winehouse that took around 200 hours to complete.
She has now begun releasing prints under the name ‘The Geordie Artist’ and is developing a wider collection of work, with plans to further establish herself within the art world while continuing to grow her restorative skin practice.
Amanda added: “The restorative work will always be hugely important to me because it changes people’s confidence and lives.
“But art is a massive part of who I am personally, and I’m excited to start growing that side of my career as well.”
