Contractor breaks ground on 'significant' city hotel
A building contractor has started work on a city hotel scheme.
Caddick Construction has broken ground on a Room2 development in Leeds.
Bosses say the 16-storey venture – based on the former Leeds International Swimming Pool site – will include 200 rooms, a café and bar, meeting and events space, a gym, laundry and shops.
Work on the renewable energy-powered endeavour is earmarked for completion by spring 2028.
The Lisbon Street-based hotel will be overseen by Lamington Group through its Room2 hometel brand.
Designed by DLA Architecture, the scheme is led by Marrico and Helios Real Estate, and has been forward funded by Border to Coast Pensions Partnership advised by Aberdeen Investments.
Steve Ford, regional managing director of Wakefield-headquartered Caddick Construction Yorkshire & North East, said: “This is a significant moment for everyone involved in the project.
“It’s particularly exciting to see one of the first major hotel developments in Leeds city centre for several years.”
Zoe Thompson, Helios Real Estate development director, said: “We have no doubt this development will be a fantastic new addition to Leeds city centre and its thriving hospitality market.
“The Lisbon Street development will play an important role in transforming the area, contributing not only to Leeds’ evolving skyline but also supporting the local economy through investment, job creation and wider opportunities.”
Scott Barnes, Marrico development director, added: “It’s great to see construction underway at Lisbon Street following several years of planning and collaboration.”
