NEPO marks golden milestone with rebrand

A public procurement organisation is marking 50 years of operation with a growing national footprint and more than £16 million in community wealth generated through public sector spending.

NEPO (the North East Procurement Organisation), founded as a collective of 12 North East local authorities, has evolved into a national procurement partner working with councils, education providers, health bodies, emergency services and central government organisations across England.

The organisation now manages more than £1 billion in public sector spending, using collective buying power to support jobs, champion SMEs and deliver social and economic value through procurement.

Its growth has been supported by the development of specialist services, including NEPRO One, launched in 2012 with Bloom Procurement Services, which has since expanded into a wider portfolio of outcome-focused procurement solutions.

Recent additions include NEPRO Innovation, delivered with Constellia, and NEPRO Financial Resilience, delivered by Grant Thornton and EY-Parthenon.

NEPO has also invested in digital transformation through OPEN, a procurement platform designed to improve accessibility and modernise processes for public sector buyers and suppliers.

To mark its anniversary, NEPO is unveiling a new brand identity reflecting its modern approach, regional roots and expanding national role.

The refreshed identity signals the organisation’s ambitions to continue shaping smarter, more collaborative public procurement.

Nicola Shelley, managing director of NEPO, said: “Reaching 50 years is a proud milestone, but it’s also a testament to the power of public sector collaboration.

“While our roots may lie in the North East, our national expansion shows that a collaborative approach combined with unbeaten expertise can deliver impact nationwide.

“As the procurement landscape evolves, this year our focus remains exactly where it started and that is using public spend to deliver real value for our members, local people and businesses.”
