Clive Owen recognised for developing talent

A North East accountancy and business advisory firm has been recognised for its commitment to developing future talent and creating career opportunities for young people.

Clive Owen LLP was one of only two organisations to receive an award at this year’s 5% Club Summer Reception, held at the House of Lords.

The firm collected the inaugural Youth Futures Award, which recognises employers demonstrating leadership and measurable impact in supporting apprenticeships and helping young people build long-term careers.

The accolade, which was accepted on behalf of the firm by Ula White, head of people and culture at Clive Owen LLP, adds to Clive Owen LLP’s status as a Platinum Member of The 5% Club, the highest level of accreditation awarded to organisations committed to workplace learning and development.

Ula said: “We are incredibly proud to be recognised through the Youth Futures Award and it was an honour to attend the House of Lords.

“Supporting young people to build rewarding and successful careers is something we are deeply passionate about as a firm.

“At Clive Owen LLP, we believe talent comes from many different backgrounds and pathways.

“Whether someone joins us as an apprentice, graduate or experienced professional, we are committed to providing the support, training and opportunities they need to reach their full potential.

“This recognition reflects the dedication of colleagues across the firm who invest significant time and energy in mentoring, coaching and developing the next generation.”

With 150 colleagues across offices in Darlington, Middlesbrough, Durham, York and Newcastle, the firm has made talent development a key part of its long-term strategy.

Clive Owen LLP offers a range of entry routes into the profession, supporting school leavers and graduates through structured training programmes across audit, accounting and tax.

These pathways are linked to professional qualifications including ACA, ACCA, AAT, CTA and ATT.

The firm’s approach extends beyond accountancy roles, with employees in marketing, human resources, IT and administration also encouraged to pursue training and career development opportunities.

Phillipa Symington, partner and people and culture lead, added: “Receiving this award at the House of Lords is a very proud moment for us as a firm.

“It represents years of commitment to doing things the right way – investing in people, creating opportunity and supporting long-term development.

“We know that talent doesn’t follow a single path, and we have worked hard to build a culture where different routes into the profession are not only recognised, but celebrated.

“As we continue to grow, our focus remains the same – to create an environment where everyone has the opportunity to develop, progress and succeed.

“To see that recognised in this way means a great deal.”
