Wakefield scheme secures affordable housing partner
A housebuilder has completed a multi-million-pound deal to deliver 73 affordable homes in West Yorkshire as demand for accessible and affordable housing continues to grow.
Avant Homes has agreed the £17.4 million sale of a wholly affordable housing scheme at its Lingwell Gate Lane development in Wakefield to housing provider Vico Homes.
The deal marks the first 100 per cent affordable housing agreement between the two organisations and Avant Homes’ first such partnership with Vico in West Yorkshire.
The development will comprise 73 homes, including accessible two-bedroom bungalows, semi-detached houses and detached family properties.
Homes will be made available predominantly through Social Rent, alongside a number of Rent to Buy and Shared Ownership options.
Headquartered in Barlborough, near Chesterfield, Avant Homes said the deal forms part of its wider strategy to grow its multi-tenure housing business across its operating regions.
The agreement is the latest collaboration between Avant Homes and Vico Homes, which have previously worked together on developments across Yorkshire and South Yorkshire.
Phil Lacey, head of affordable housing delivery at Avant Homes Group, said: “This 100 per cent affordable housing deal with Vico Homes reflects our commitment to delivering quality, energy-efficient new homes for the people who need them most.
“Our multi-tenure strategy is underpinned by creating long-term partnerships with social housing providers to support in the delivery of further affordable homes.
“The relationship developed with Vico Homes is an excellent example of this and we look forward to continuing this partnership to explore new opportunities together across the Yorkshire region.
“This deal also forms an important part of our wider plans to successfully deliver more than 900 additional affordable homes across 15 developments and a further 550 Section 106 affordable homes.”
Joel Owen, development director at Vico Homes, added: “These new energy-efficient homes will make a real difference for people and families in Wakefield and are a major step forward in our ambition to deliver 10,000 new high-quality affordable homes over the next ten years across Yorkshire.
“The development builds on a strong and growing partnership, with Avant already delivering homes for us in Altofts, Edenthorpe, Birdwell and Dodworth, and helping us bring more affordable homes to people who need them.”
The project is being supported by funding from Homes England’s affordable housing programme, which aims to increase the supply of social and affordable homes across the UK.
First completions are expected in spring next year, with all properties due to be finished by summer 2028.
