PR founder makes awards shortlist
A communications entrepreneur has been recognised among the region’s leading business founders after being shortlisted for a national award.
Samuel Marriott-Dowding, founder and chief executive of Sunderland-based Marriott Communications, has been shortlisted for Great Britain’s Young Entrepreneur of the Year at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards 2026.
The category recognises entrepreneurs across the North East, Yorkshire and The Humber who are demonstrating innovation, leadership and impact in their sectors.
Since launching Marriott Communications, Samuel has grown the business from an independent PR consultancy into a strategic communications and advisory firm delivering public relations, reputation management, public affairs and executive-level support.
The firm has built its reputation by combining creativity, data and insight to help organisations manage increasingly complex communications challenges.
It has also launched what it describes as the North East's first Intelligence service, helping clients monitor reputation, understand emerging risks and make better-informed decisions.
Samuel said: “The North East has an incredible entrepreneurial spirit, and I’m proud to represent a region full of creativity, ambition and innovation.
“This recognition is a reflection of the wider team, our clients and everyone who has helped shape Marriott Communications into what it is today.”
