Keepmoat is set to deliver almost 250 new homes across the Fields Edge and Oaklands developments in North Halifax

Work begins on 250-home Halifax scheme

A housebuilder has started work on a regeneration project that will deliver almost 250 new homes across North Halifax.

Doncaster-headquartered Keepmoat is delivering the Fields Edge and Oaklands developments as part of Calderdale Council’s North Halifax Transformation Programme.

The schemes represent a combined investment of more than £50 million and span three brownfield sites across Ovenden, Mixenden and Illingworth.

Plans include almost 250 new homes, with 53 affordable properties set to be managed by a local housing provider.

The developments have been supported by £7.8 million from Homes England’s Brownfield, Infrastructure and Land Grant, which will help fund remediation and enabling works.

Keepmoat will also deliver biodiversity improvements, public open space, tree planting, supporting infrastructure and traffic-calming measures.

Warren Thompson, regional managing director at Keepmoat Yorkshire West, said: “It’s always an exciting moment when we break ground at a new development.

“At Keepmoat our goal is to build communities and transform the lives of local people and Fields Edge and Oaklands represent a key part of our long-term commitment to supporting North Halifax’s regeneration ambitions.

“These brownfield sites have huge potential and working alongside the council and a local housing association is the perfect recipe to create something great.

“Alongside new housing, Keepmoat is investing in public open space, infrastructure and local connectivity.”

Councillor Keith Ingle, Calderdale Council’s cabinet member for economic regeneration, added: “Ensuring that local people can access safe, warm and affordable housing is one of our priorities, and we’ll work hard to support the delivery of high-quality homes in places where people want to live.

“I’m pleased that this scheme will provide much-needed homes to support local families, especially as it’s being delivered on a brownfield site, making the most of currently unused land.”
