Traditional music festival returns to Rothbury

A Northumberland village is preparing to welcome musicians and music lovers from across the UK and beyond for the return of its traditional music festival.

Rothbury Traditional Music Festival will take place from Friday, July 10 to Sunday, July 12, bringing a weekend of concerts, competitions, workshops, sessions and family events to venues across the village.

Founded by Northumbrian musician Alistair Anderson, the festival has become one of the region’s most respected celebrations of traditional music, attracting performers and visitors from around the world.

This year’s line-up includes folk duo Janice Burns & John Doran, Irish musicians Mícheál & MacDara Ó Raghallaigh, accordionist Elke de Meester, Andy May Trio, Arthur Coates and Kerran Cotterell, Julian Sutton and Anderson himself.

Highlights include the Festival Concert at The Mart, free performances on an outdoor stage, the Graham Pirt presentation Crusade, workshops, informal sessions and the Festival Ceilidh.

Festival director Ian Stephenson said: “The festival is all about bringing world-class traditional music to the heart of Coquetdale, while creating opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to get involved.

“Whether you’re a lifelong folk enthusiast or completely new to traditional music, there is something for everyone.”
