Airport race day raises £12,000 for theatre charity

A North East transport hub has raised more than £12,000 for a regional performing arts charity through a fundraising race day.

Newcastle Airport raised £12,233 for its official charity partner, True Colours Theatre, at an event held at Newcastle Racecourse.

The fundraiser brought together the airport’s stakeholders, business partners and guests for an afternoon of racing and entertainment, with money raised through a raffle, donations and a live auction.

Prizes included return flights to any Jet2holidays destination, a private flight experience courtesy of NALjets and hospitality tickets to a Newcastle United home match.

Alice Andreasen, chief corporate affairs officer at Newcastle Airport, said: “We are incredibly proud to have raised £12,233 for True Colours Theatre through our charity race day.

“The work they do to enrich the lives of young people across the North East is truly inspiring and it is a cause that resonates deeply with our people.

“I would like to thank everyone who supported the event, including our partners and local businesses who donated prizes.

“The funds raised will make a real difference, helping True Colours continue their fantastic work and reach even more young people.”

Founded in 2014, True Colours Theatre runs a fully inclusive performing arts school in Wallsend, providing drama, dance and theatre classes for young people of all abilities.

The charity was chosen as Newcastle Airport’s official charity partner following a nomination and vote by airport employees.

Guests at the event were also treated to a performance by a group of young people supported by the charity, showcasing the impact of its work across the region.

Alisar-Jane Taylor, founder and chief executive of True Colours Theatre, added: “We are incredibly grateful to Newcastle Airport, its partners and everyone who supported the race day.

“The money raised will make a real difference to the young people we work with, helping us continue to provide inclusive opportunities and support the exciting events planned this year, including our summer shows at Whitley Bay Playhouse this July.

“We would love to welcome as many people as possible to our shows – it’s a fantastic opportunity to support our talented young performers and experience the incredible work they do.”
