Dance City appoints chief executive and creative director
Newcastle-based Dance City has appointed Jennifer Curry as its new chief executive and creative director.
Jennifer joins the North East dance development organisation with extensive leadership experience across the cultural sector.
She will take up the role in September 2026.
She joins from Gosforth Civic Theatre, where she is director of philanthropy and external relations, having played a key role in growing fundraising, strengthening partnerships and raising the venue’s regional and national profile.
Prior to that, Jennifer led Dancers’ Career Development, the national charity supporting professional dancers, where she expanded the organisation’s reach, developed strategic partnerships and represented the profession internationally, including serving as president of the International Organisation for the Transition of Professional Dancers.
Jennifer said: “I’m delighted to join Dance City and work with its exceptional team, artists and partners so we can shape the organisation’s ambitions and drive the next era of growth for dance in the North East.
“I look forward to working together to strengthen Dance City’s impact locally, nationally and internationally.”
Jennifer’s appointment marks the next chapter for Dance City as it continues to support artists, audiences and the development of dance across the North East and beyond.
Lyndsey Turner-Swift, chair of Dance City’s board of trustees, added: “Jennifer has an outstanding track record in the dance sector and we look forward to drawing on her considerable expertise and skills as we navigate the future, which has been challenging for many organisations.
“We’re excited we’ve found such a dynamic and inclusive leader to confidently champion our story, build relationships and partnerships and helping us continue to grow our work and profile in the region and across the UK.”
