Gleeson to deliver 200-home Wrexham scheme
A North Wales housebuilder is set to deliver around 200 new homes as part of one of the region’s largest regeneration projects.
MJ Gleeson has been selected as the preferred bidder by Brymbo Developments Ltd, a subsidiary of Parkhill Group, to acquire a 6.487-hectare residential site at Brymbo Park, near Wrexham.
The site benefits from outline planning permission for approximately 200 homes and forms part of the wider transformation of the 560-acre former British Steelworks site into a mixed-use community.
Alongside the new housing, the masterplan includes a primary school, district centre, food store, pub and restaurant, children’s play areas, public footpaths, landscaping and open space.
Gareth Owen, land director at Gleeson, said: “We are delighted to be selected as the preferred bidder for the next phase at Brymbo Park, a site of significant scale and importance to the region.
“This acquisition presents an exciting opportunity for Gleeson to deliver high-quality homes that meet local demand, while contributing to the wider regeneration of this historic site.”
Brymbo Developments, a subsidiary of private development company Parkhill Group, has already secured an agreement for a 5000sq ft Sainsbury’s convenience store, while a further 4500sq ft of retail space is being marketed.
Land has also been transferred to Wrexham Council for a new primary school, with construction expected to begin in early 2027.
The wider regeneration also features a heritage visitor attraction, backed by £10 million in funding, which is due to open this summer, with additional residential and commercial opportunities planned across the site.
James Cannon, head of property at Parkhill Group, added: “Gleeson is a well-respected developer and a good fit for this site.
“We are confident that they will deliver fit-for-purpose new homes for the local community, which will provide a further catalyst for this major regional regeneration project.
“We look forward to working alongside them to deliver the next phase of this transformative project.”
