Tyre distributor drives on with 'significant' takeover

A national tyre distributor has expanded with a takeover.

Micheldever Tyre Services has bought Tyre Spot Autocentres.

Bosses say the deal covers 11 North East retail sites and a County Durham distribution hub.

Under the terms of the agreement, the retail bases have been rebranded as Protyre Autocare.

Bosses at Hampshire-based Micheldever Tyre Services say the move marks a “significant step forward” in plans to operate 350 national retail centres by 2030. 

Founded more than 40 years ago, Tyre Spot – whose portfolio includes sites in Newcastle, Darlington, Durham, North Shields and Washington – employs nearly 150 staff overseeing tyre fitting, MOTs and vehicle servicing.

Graham Mitchell, Micheldever Tyre Services’ chief executive, said: “This strengthens our presence in a region where we already have established sites and customers.

“By combining our national reach, scale and infrastructure with Tyre Spot’s strong local presence and reputation, we are continuing to build a business capable of servicing customers consistently and effectively across the UK.”

Johnathon Shaw, Tyre Spot managing director, added: “We've built our family-run business into the largest independent tyre supplier in the North East.

“We’re excited to see how the business evolves in its next chapter.”

The agreement also covers Tyre Spot’s sites in Birtley, near Chester-le-Street; Consett, in County Durham; Gateshead; and Houghton-le-Spring, near Sunderland.
