Golf day drives £13,000 charity boost
A North East disability charity has raised more than £13,000 after businesses from across the region came together for its annual fundraising golf day.
The Percy Hedley Foundation welcomed 21 teams to Close House’s Lee Westwood Filly Course, with proceeds helping the charity support people with complex disabilities and communication needs.
Hosted by Sky Sports presenter Pete Graves, the event was backed by headline sponsor Pin Point Healthcare, with additional support from hole sponsor ECBS.
Golfers competed in a range of challenges, including a £10,000 hole-in-one competition, while young people supported by the Foundation shared how the charity has made a difference to their lives.
The day concluded with a Q&A featuring local football legends John Carver, Steve Watson and Shola Ameobi.
Funds raised will help the Percy Hedley Foundation continue delivering specialist education, care and support services across the North East.
John Preston, chief executive of the Percy Hedley Foundation, said: “Today’s event surpassed all expectations.
“From exceeding our fundraising target to hearing from sporting greats and, most importantly, the people whose lives are impacted by our work, it was an honour to host our best golf day yet.
“The generosity and commitment shown by the businesses in attendance highlighted the strength of support for people with disabilities across our region.
“We are incredibly grateful to our business community for their continued partnership, which helps us deliver life-changing services and support to those who need it most.”
Marc Findlay, branch manager at Pin Point Healthcare, added: “We are proud to have supported the Percy Hedley Golf Day as headline sponsor once again.
“Meeting some of the people who benefit from the Foundation’s work and hearing their stories firsthand was truly inspiring and really brought home the difference that fundraising makes.
“It was excellent to see the local business community come together, raising vital funds that will help the Foundation continue delivering its life-changing work.”
