North Bloom plants seeds for growth
A North Yorkshire gardening business is expanding rapidly after building a loyal client base through word-of-mouth recommendations, with ambitions to create opportunities for more young people in the industry.
Founded by Issey Gill and Oliver Hill, North Bloom has secured 12 ongoing maintenance contracts in just six months, providing garden and grounds services for residential and commercial clients across North Yorkshire and the Yorkshire Dales.
The couple, who both come from farming and equestrian backgrounds, have grown the business almost entirely through repeat work and referrals.
Rising demand has already prompted them to expand the team as they look to build on their early success.
Issey said: “When you’re working on someone's garden, you’re being trusted with something they really care about.
“That trust is everything to us, and it’s why almost all of our growth has come through word of mouth.
“People recommend us because they know we'll look after their space properly.”
North Bloom works with homeowners, care homes, estates, hotels, restaurants, agricultural and equestrian businesses, and industrial sites, delivering tailored maintenance plans designed around each property's individual requirements.
Services include grounds maintenance, tree and hedge care, landscaping, planting, site clearance and seasonal work, with the company also holding CHAS accreditation for its health and safety standards.
Alongside growing the business, Issey and Oliver hope to encourage more young people into horticulture and grounds maintenance, believing the sector offers rewarding long-term career opportunities.
With summer bringing increased demand for outdoor maintenance, North Bloom is now taking on new clients across Yorkshire as it continues to strengthen its reputation for reliable service and personalised customer care.
Issey and Oliver say their focus remains on building trusted relationships with clients by delivering consistent, high-quality work and treating every outdoor space as if it were their own, a philosophy they believe has been central to the company’s rapid growth.
Issey added: “We could see there was a real gap in the market for a garden and grounds business done properly, and it’s something we’re both genuinely passionate about.
“We love what we do, and we’d love to see more young people coming into the industry.
“We’re always happy to help anyone leaving college, or with a real interest in this kind of work, to get a foot in the door.”
