Pet food maker bites into new markets with takeover
A pet food maker has expanded with a takeover.
Burgess Pet Care has bought German small animal nutrition brand Bunny Nature.
Bosses say the move marks a “significant step forward” in Burgess’ global growth ambitions.
They add the swoop will “create opportunities to introduce proven products into new markets”, revealing the agreement has increased East Yorkshire-based Burgess Pet Care’s international revenues five-fold to £12.5 million.
Under the terms of the deal, Bunny Nature – founded in 1988 and known for small animal feeds distributed across Europe, North America and Asia – will continue to operate as a distinct brand.
Its existing senior leadership teams will also remain in place.
Mark Womersley, managing director at Burgess Pet Care, whose products include Supadog-branded feeds and Excel-branded rabbit nuggets and feeding hay, said the deal represents a “significant milestone” for the Pollington, near Goole-based business.
He said: “Bunny Nature is a highly respected brand with genuine international reach.
“We see clear opportunities to invest, grow and build a truly global small animal nutrition company with an unmatched offering for pets and owners around the world.”
Oliver Petzoldt, Bunny Nature managing director, added: “We’re pleased to be joining a business that shares our values around animal welfare and nutrition.
“We’re looking forward to continuing to grow the brand together.”
