Buzzworks acquires 'iconic' island hotel

A Scottish hospitality operator is expanding its accommodation portfolio with the acquisition of an “iconic” island hotel.

Buzzworks has announced plans to buy The Douglas Hotel in Brodick, Isle of Arran, with the deal expected to complete in mid-July. 

The award-winning hotel will continue trading throughout the summer before closing temporarily for refurbishment later this year.

Following a seven-figure investment, the 170-year-old property will reopen in spring 2027 as part of Buzzworks’ House Collection. 

The redevelopment, led by acclaimed designer Jim Hamilton, will introduce 21 redesigned bedrooms, a contemporary bar and restaurant, and enhanced outdoor spaces while preserving the building's heritage.

The acquisition strengthens Buzzworks’ presence on Scotland’s west coast, complementing its existing venues in Troon and Prestwick.

As part of the deal, the existing team will transfer to Buzzworks, with staff set to benefit from the group’s training, development and career progression opportunities when the hotel reopens.
