Builder boosts book with emergency school work
A construction firm has bolstered its order book with education sector work.
Compass Developments has transformed an ex-care base into a temporary school.
The business has turned the Foundry House base in Bedlington, Northumberland, into a learning hub following the closure of Mowbray Primary School, in nearby Stakeford.
The 1920s school was shut late last year to repair structural defects.
Cramlington-based Compass Developments created classrooms, special educational needs and disability spaces, group rooms and dining areas.
The work also included upgrades to office areas and mechanical and electrical infrastructure, as well as security improvements and internal decoration.
Stephen O’Neill, director at Compass Developments, which was commissioned by Northumberland County Council under the NEPO framework, said: “This was a complex project with a very challenging timeline – but we delivered on time and within budget.
“We talked daily to Northumberland County Council, the design team and supply chain partners to ensure progress was maintained.
“We’ve provided brilliant facilities for Mowbray Primary School pupils in a very short time period.”
Councillor Guy Renner-Thompson, Northumberland County Council cabinet member for children and young people, added: “Ensuring our young people receive the best possible education is crucial.
“We now have a first-class, modern teaching environment.”
