Golf days raise £15,000 for charity
A North East car dealership has teed up more than £15,000 for charity after backing two fundraising golf events.
Vertu BMW Sunderland partnered with George Washington Golf Club to back separate charity golf days in aid of Pathways 4 All and Prostate Cancer UK.
The dealership, based at Boldon Business Park, supplied BMW models for display at both events, with weekend use of a BMW iX3 and a BMW M2 offered as prizes for closest-to-the-pin competitions.
It also donated BMW and MINI prizes for a charity raffle.
The Pathways 4 All Golf Day raised almost £11,500 for the North East charity, which provides accessible leisure facilities, family support and education services for disabled children and young people.
A second event, organised in support of Prostate Cancer UK, raised more than £3000.
Together, the two fundraising days generated in excess of £15,000, highlighting the successful partnership between Vertu BMW Sunderland and George Washington Golf Club in supporting charitable causes across the region.
Stephen Robson, assistant service manager at Vertu BMW Sunderland, said: “As a member at the club, I’ve seen first-hand the work it does for charity, so I reached out to see how we could get involved.
“The Pathways 4 All event was fantastic, with a number of famous faces involved, including former England cricketer Steve Harmison, and raised a brilliant amount for a charity that works hard to support families across the North East and beyond.
“On the back of that success, we were asked to help with the Prostate Cancer UK event and were delighted to get involved, particularly as the charity is close to the heart of a number of people in the dealership.
“It was extra special to see the winner of the closest to the pin competition find out he had won weekend use of the M2, as he only expected to win a few golf balls!
“Getting involved in these events has been a brilliant way to not only support the local community, but also to help two charities in their excellent work.”
Brian Brodie, golf operations manager at George Washington Golf Club, added: “We’re delighted to have teamed up with Vertu BMW Sunderland for these two events, and their support has helped to raise a fantastic amount for charity.
“When Stephen approached us to see how Vertu BMW Sunderland could get involved with some of our charitable work it came at the perfect time, with the two golf days already in our calendar.
“It was fantastic to be able to join forces to offer the weekend loan of a car for both events, which have helped to raise money for two important charities.
“Hopefully we can work with the team at the dealership again on events like this in the future.”
